December 5, 2006
On December 5, Administrators for Levan Sordia’s election campaign organized the presentation of Roman Sordia’s novel “Home Coming of Sea Gulls”. Invited guests Dato Turashvili and Spanish poet Havier Amaro had a lively discussion with the students. The theme of the discussion was – “Lost territories of Georgia”.
December 1, 2006
On December 1, Administrators for Levan Sordias’ election campaign organized screening of the film “Good Night, Good Luck” at GIPA café. A lively discussion on media’s role in the formation of democratic values ensued. Distinguished guests of GIPA Tamar Chikovani, Rusudan Mshvidobadze, Ninia Kakabadze and Lasha Bakradze took part in the discussion.
October 26, 2006
On October 26, expert in conflict resolution Paata Zaqareishvili spoke to international affairs students about Abkhazia and Osetia issues. The expert described the reasons of conflict, also current political and social processes in above mentioned regions. At the end of the meeting Mr. Zaqareishvili donated the number of interesting books to gipa library.
May 3, 2006
Georgian Institute of Public Affairs celebrated the World Press Freedom Day, May 3rd, by announcing a Georgian-language master’s degree program in journalism and media management. The announcement was made at a roundtable discussion with participation of leading Georgian journalists, foreign journalists, diplomats and journalism students. “Georgian Media in the World Context” was the topic of discussion. Contemporary problems of Georgian and world media were discussed. Among the participants were: leading Georgian journalists Eka Khoperia, Giorgi Targamadze, Khatuna Maisashvili, Zviad Koridze, Dean of Journalism program of the Languages and Culture State University Revaz Surguladze, Deputy Chief of U.S. Mission in Georgia Mark Perry, Ambassador of Great Britain Donald MacLaren, Bosnian journalist Boris Mrkela, Lawrence Sheets of American National Public Radio, American journalists Dave Bloss, Jody McPhilips, GIPA faculty members and students.

On May 30, at Didi Digomi site took place planting of trees. The event was organized by the Tbilisi City Council, Ministries of Environment and Education. With the representatives of other institutions GIPA current students and Alumni planted 200 saplings.
March 24-25 2006
Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), within Georgian Rural Development Program (GRDP) organized a two-day out of site conference on March 24,25 2006 in Bakuriani. The theme of the conference was “Perspectives of Agricultural Development in Georgia”. The conference was funded by USDA. Participants were governmental, non-governmental and international organizations implementing agricultural projects in Georgia.

The topics of the conference were defined by the participating organizations. Interested persons/organizations presented the paper about development perspectives in accordance with the sphere of their main activity/expertise.

Zurab Zhvania Georgian Institute of Public Affairs held an open ski tournament in Gudauri ski resort. The tournament was organized by the alumnae of the School of Government Ilo Lomidze and widely supported by JSC Castel-Georgia, JSC David Sarajishvili & Eniseli , LTD Geocell and LTD DHL.

Current students, alumni and GIPA administrative staff, as well as other invited guests participated in the tournament. The memorable prizes were awarded to the first place winners – Jaba Gabrichidze, alumnae of the Public Administration Program class 2001, and Nana Kldiashvili, last year first place winner, student of Tbilisi Akademiuri Secondary School, as well as the second and third place winners among men ad women.

The institute expresses special thanks to all sponsors and guests for their support and hopes that the annual competition will attract not only student of GIPA, but also every member of Georgian and foreign society associated with the institute.

Inga Grigolia, a popular talkshow hostess, visited GIPA on March 18 to speak to students in the Communication Management class about various aspects of TV news production.

Zurab Zhvania Memorial Youth Football Tournament On February 26, Zurab Zhvania Memorial Youth Football Tournament was held by the Sport Development Union of Georgia (Chairman Giorgi Asanidze). 11 years old Giorgi Papunashvili, member of the team “Vake – 91” received GIPA award as the best forward.

Mr. M. Laar Former Prime-Minister of Estonia, Member of the Estonian Parliament Mr. Mart Laar visited GIPA on January 20 to meet with students. Mr. Laar, the active politician who implemented vigorous reforms in Estonia, delivered a lecture "Nation in Transition: Estonian Experience".
